KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), October 6, 2025 — Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today announced the official dissolution of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly, marking the beginning of the political journey towards the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN-17) — a pivotal contest that will determine the state’s political direction and development agenda for the next five years.

The announcement was made following the Chief Minister’s meeting with Members of the State Government at the Banquet Hall, Menara Kinabalu, earlier today.

According to Hajiji, he had audienced with His Excellency Tun Musa Aman, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri (Governor of Sabah), at Istana Seri Kinabalu this morning to advise the dissolution of the Assembly upon the completion of the state government’s five-year term.

“With the consent of His Excellency, the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly is hereby dissolved effective today, Monday, 6 October 2025. This paves the way for PRN-17 Sabah and returns the power to the people to decide the leadership of this state. This decision reflects the Sabah Government’s commitment to the principles of democracy and constitutional process,” Hajiji said.

Reflecting on his administration’s performance since 2020, Hajiji emphasised that his government has laid the foundation for holistic and inclusive transformation through the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Blueprint.

“The SMJ Plan serves as the main roadmap in restructuring the state’s development based on three strategic pillars — Agriculture, Industry and Tourism; Human Capital and People’s Wellbeing; and Infrastructure Connectivity and Green Sustainability,” he explained.

He noted that the implementation of the SMJ Plan has led to tangible progress in economic growth, infrastructure improvement, and social welfare, while also strengthening the state’s resilience against global economic challenges and the changing regional geopolitical landscape.

Hajiji also underlined that his administration has not shied away from tackling long-standing legacy issues, including water supply, electricity, and basic infrastructure, which have long affected the lives of the people.

“The government has taken bold and responsible steps by initiating several major projects to address these issues. Some have been completed, while others are still under implementation,” he said.

Over the past five years, Sabah has succeeded in attracting new investments, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening education and social assistance sectors — tangible proof of the government’s effective direction under the SMJ framework.
