LABUAN, 28 Sept 2025 – The registration day for new students at Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) was made more memorable when UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj Mansor, personally welcomed a pair of twin sisters from Kudat, Sabah, who enrolled as freshmen for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The twins, Sharifah Sahirah Azlan and Sharifah Sakirah Azlan, chose different fields of study but shared the same confidence in UMSKAL as the right platform to embark on their academic journey.
Sharifah Sahirah, the younger of the two, enrolled in the Information Technology (Multimedia Technology) programme, citing its strong career prospects in the fast-growing digital industry. Meanwhile, her elder sister, Sharifah Sakirah, opted for the International Marketing programme, confident in its wide-ranging opportunities within the global business landscape.
Recalling their journey to Labuan, the twins shared how they travelled from Kota Kinabalu to Menumbok, before boarding a speedboat to Labuan and later taking the university bus to UMSKAL.
Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim expressed his pride in the determination shown by the new students, especially the twin sisters, who were willing to travel far from home in pursuit of knowledge.
“The presence of these twin sisters reflects the community’s trust in the quality of education at UMS. Although they came together as twins, each of them has the opportunity to excel in their own chosen field,” he said.
Also present at the occasion were Dean of the Labuan Faculty of International Finance (FKAL), Associate Professor Dr. Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal; UMSKAL Head of Administration, Sharifah Ismail; Deputy Chief Psychology Officer and Head of the UMSKAL Student Affairs Division, Nur Iman Reedzal; UMS Student Affairs Department (HEP) Director, Azmi Jumat; UMS Corporate Communication Centre (PKK) Director, Dr. Rizal Zamani Idris; and Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Administration at the Faculty of Computing, Molly Donna Awang Sham.
As of 12 noon on the second day of registration, a total of 331 students had registered under FKAL and 112 under the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FKI). The numbers are expected to continue rising before the registration period closes tomorrow.
The presence of the twin sisters stands as a symbolic highlight of this year’s student intake at UMS, underscoring the university’s diversity and its commitment to providing quality education for all.
