HDOK Hydrotherapy: A Touch of Humanity, Where the Spirit of the Elderly Shines

SANDAKAN (Sabah, Malaysia), October 4, 2025 — The Premier Hydrotherapy Program organised by the Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK) was more than just a health activity — it was a heartfelt expression of compassion and appreciation for senior citizens, the very individuals who once formed the backbone of society.

Chairman of the HDOK Board of Visitors, Dr. Peter Jr. Naintn, said the programme, themed “Stay Active, Live Healthy in the Golden Years,” brought together senior citizens, healthcare workers, and volunteers in an atmosphere filled with laughter, warmth, and affection.

“When they stepped into the water, it was not merely a physical act — it was a flow of hope and renewed energy, symbolising that an active and meaningful life continues to flourish even in the twilight years,” he said empathetically.

Dr. Peter emphasised that hydrotherapy is not only about physical rehabilitation, but also serves as a therapy for the soul, reviving emotional well-being and inner strength.

“Our elderly must feel that they are still valued, still contributing, and remain a source of inspiration for the younger generation,” he added.

He further noted that the success of the programme reflects the deep dedication of HDOK’s healthcare team in reaching out to the community through a people-centred and compassionate approach.

“Every smile and every moment of laughter from the elderly participants is worth far more than any formal recognition,” Dr. Peter said.

Community solidarity also played a meaningful role, with Big Heart Sandakan NGO and Mangan-Mangan Restaurant sponsoring lunch for the participants — a simple yet powerful gesture of care that embodied the spirit of togetherness.

The HDOK Hydrotherapy initiative demonstrates that healthcare is not confined to physical well-being alone. It is also about nurturing emotional connection and community resilience.
