KOTA BELUD (Sabah, Malaysia), 9 August 2025 – Kampung Kiau in Kota Belud has received a major development boost as the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP), allocates RM1.1 million for the Madani Adopted Village and Madani Adopted School projects.
Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said that RM1 million will be channelled towards seven small-scale infrastructure projects across several zones in the village, while RM100,000 will be allocated to the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kiau for school development.
“The Madani Adopted Village programme in Kiau includes upgrading residential roads, agricultural access, public facilities, drainage construction, culverts to cemetery areas, and community drainage systems,” he said during the Madani Adopted Village and Adopted School Handover Ceremony at Dewan Tamu Desa Kampung Kiau.
Key projects include:
- Upgrading sports field access roads, community halls, clinics, and village halls in Kampung Kiau Nuluh.
- Building drainage in Tebobon and Hongkung zones.
- Constructing roads and culverts to cemetery areas in Kampung Kiau Taburi.
- Developing community roads and drainage systems in Tomoduh Zone, Kampung Kiau Bersatu.
The Madani Adopted School – SK Kiau holds special significance for Ewon, as he is an alumnus of the school.
“SK Kiau is my adopted school. I studied here from Year 1 to Year 6. This allocation is intended to address the school’s infrastructure needs and benefit the entire community,” he said.
Ewon also urged villagers to capitalise on the village’s natural resources, particularly in agriculture, tourism, and cooperatives, to strengthen local socio-economic growth.
The event was attended by KUSKOP Secretary-General Dato’ Sri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) CEO Noor Affifah Abdul Razak, and community leaders.
Renowned as a gateway to the Kinabalu mountain tourism area, Kampung Kiau is poised for a revitalisation that combines infrastructure upgrades, educational improvements, and sustainable community economic activities.
