KOTA KINABALU, Sept 28, 2026 — Sabah has appointed two business chamber leaders to the board of the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO), strengthening industry representation in the state agency responsible for promoting economic development.
The appointees are Datuk Awang Buhtamam Awang Mahmun, president of the Sabah chapter of the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM), and Carl Moosom, a member of the supreme council of the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick said their industry experience and perspectives would contribute to SEDCO’s planning and strategic direction.
“I am confident that the appointment of representatives from business and industry chambers to the SEDCO board will bring industry perspectives and experience into the agency’s planning,” Ewon said after presenting their appointment letters on Monday.
Ewon, who is also Sabah’s Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, said Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Andrew Liew Sui Fatt, honorary adviser to the Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC), is also an existing member of the SEDCO board.
Ewon thanked Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor for supporting the appointment of corporate figures and industry association representatives to the boards of statutory bodies and government-linked companies, particularly those under his ministry.
“This is in line with my initial commitment to see more industry representatives appointed, balanced with representatives from the leadership of political parties in the government,” he said.
The appointments come as Sabah seeks to strengthen industrial development, entrepreneurship and private-sector participation as part of its broader economic development agenda.
