KUANTAN, Aug 22 – A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet was involved in an accident at the Kuantan Air Base on Thursday night, but both crew members on board have been confirmed safe and are currently receiving medical treatment.

In a statement, the RMAF said the incident occurred at 9:05 p.m. on the runway of Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport.

“The two crew members involved in the accident have been confirmed safe and are undergoing further treatment,” the statement said.

Earlier, videos circulating on social media showed an explosion followed by sparks at the air base. Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.

The F/A-18D Hornet is one of the RMAF’s key combat aircraft, used for air defence, maritime patrol, and combat training missions. Malaysia has been operating the twin-seat variant since the late 1990s.
