KENINGAU, Sabah, Sept 6, 2025 – The Keningau chapter of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Youth has declared firm support for the use of the party’s official symbol in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN-17), describing it as a vital marker of political identity and local struggle.
UPKO Keningau Youth chief Jeffsonzo Japrin said contesting under the party’s own emblem would strengthen campaign strategy and boost voter confidence in UPKO.
“We believe that by using the UPKO symbol, we can win the people’s trust and restore their confidence in UPKO as a local political platform within the unity government that truly understands the heartbeat of Sabah’s people,” he said.
Jeffsonzo, who also serves as an UPKO Youth Central Executive Council member, added that the emblem is more than a logo – it embodies the party’s commitment to champion the aspirations of rural communities.
“The UPKO symbol is not just a mark. It represents our determination to stand firm as a local party consistently fighting for the rights and future of Sabahans,” he stressed.
He noted that the stance reflects the sentiment of grassroots supporters in Keningau and the interior, who are increasingly demanding UPKO present itself with a clear and independent identity in PRN-17.
UPKO Youth Keningau expressed confidence that the move would spark a new wave of political spirit among members and supporters, ensuring UPKO remains relevant, rooted among the people, and competitive in Sabah’s political landscape.
