KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), Sept 29, 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has reaffirmed its uncompromising stance against all forms of bullying within the campus community, whether physical, mental, emotional, or online.

UMS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Mansor, stressed that the university views bullying as a serious issue as it threatens the safety, well-being, and harmony of students.

“Every student must understand that the freedom they enjoy at university comes with the responsibility to respect and support one another.

“UMS will never tolerate any form of bullying. Should it occur, report it immediately. This university is a safe space for students to learn, grow, and develop into competitive individuals,” he said during his welcoming address at the Opening Ceremony of the Orientation Week (MSM) for the 2025/2026 intake, held at the UMS Chancellor Hall today.

He added that bullying has no place in an academic ecosystem, where students should instead focus on intellectual achievement, personal development, and the cultivation of character.

“Remember, you are here not to bring others down, but to rise together towards success,” he emphasized.

At the same time, Professor Kasim assured that UMS remains attentive to student welfare, including basic needs such as water supply and residential facilities.

“Any infrastructure-related issues will be addressed promptly to ensure students can fully focus on their studies without being distracted by basic concerns,” he said.

Highlighting the university’s track record, he noted that UMS achieved an impressive Graduate Employability Rate of 94.7 percent in 2024, with 93.9 percent of graduates securing employment immediately after completing their studies.

“This achievement demonstrates that UMS is not only an institution of higher learning, but also a centre that produces high-quality, competitive graduates who can contribute meaningfully to society, industry, and the nation,” he said.

For the current academic session, a total of 5,123 new students have enrolled, becoming part of the UMS family that has produced over 91,000 graduates since its establishment in 1994. — By Salbinous Saribun
