
TENOM, Sabah, Aug 23 – The President of the Sabah Timugon Murut Ethnic Association, Junik Bajit, has stressed the importance of early career exposure for young people as part of efforts to strengthen the future of education and employment in rural communities.
Speaking at the opening of a Career Carnival in Tenom on Friday, Junik said the programme not only introduces educational and training pathways but also helps students make clearer career choices.
“We want students in Tenom, especially Timugon Murut youth, to have access to wider education and skills so they can compete at higher levels,” he said.
The carnival, organised by the Sabah Timugon Murut Ethnic Association, was held in collaboration with the Tenom District Education Office and the Counselling and Guidance Teachers Council. Participants included Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), the Keningau Teacher Education Institute (IPG), MARA Skills Institute (IKM), GiatMARA Keningau, Geomartika College Keningau, Keningau Vocational College, RISDA and the Department of Agriculture.
Tenom Deputy District Education Officer Martin Anguk, who was also present, expressed support for the initiative, saying such programmes could strengthen students’ career direction in the district.
